The health of an organization is closely linked to the spiritual, relational and emotional health of their leaders. The characteristics and gifts that bring one
into a leadership position, such as vision, drive, and passion, also have a
dark side. When we take our eyes off the
Giver and try to perpetuate our gift or put our faith in our gift, our
ministries stop reflecting the true Jesus and are distorted into reflecting our
own goals, dreams and desires. Vision
can become grandiosity; drive can become workaholism, people-pleasing, and
burnout; and passion can become demanding and controlling. We are all
susceptible to losing our focus, to taking our eyes off the giver, Jesus
Christ.
The solution? After the intense miraculous
ministry of feeding the 5,000, Jesus said to what I imagine were exhausted but
euphoric disciples “Come apart and rest awhile”. Jesus was teaching them the balance of work
and rest, of ministry and restoration.
Twenty centuries later Alicide de Gasperi wrote “The person of the
living Christ pulls me, enslaves me, comforts me. Come…be drawn into that same attraction as
though to an abyss of light.” Today this
is still the solution. We invite you to come apart, and enter the stream of healing or restoration that you are being drawn to. We provide sanctuary for leaders and their families as they seek to be faithful to God’s call through the ups and downs of life. Our promise to you is that you will encounter people who love Jesus, who are knowledgeable about leadership issues in the church and the market place, and who are professionally trained in their fields. Come apart and rest awhile. |
