"We don’t know how to reach women who are sexually traumatized." Jeanne Therese, Officer in the Department of Women and Families, Beni, DR Congo

Over the last 15 years, tens of thousands of young girls and women have been brutally raped, children have been orphaned and husbands, brothers, and fathers have been murdered.  The women are left to rebuild community and economy; however they are deeply wounded by their traumatic experiences.  The local pastors have asked for help and training in how to care for these traumatized women.

Our Work:
Healing Streams accepted this invitation from the collective of Community Sensitization for Integrated Development (CSCODI) based in Beni, DRC.  In November 2006, we sent a team of four to train and empower local church leaders.  The week-long seminar was on the topic of helping women heal from Post Traumatic Stress resulting from war and rape.  The team members were Dawn and Ross Penner and Michael and Brenda Ben.  Dawn Penner is the executive director of Healing Streams and a counselor with over 20 years experience working with trauma survivors.  Dawn will develop and deliver the training material for the local pastors.   Ross is an experienced pastor and mentor and will provide pastoral care support to the local pastors.   Michael and Brenda Ben are Chartered Accountants and will assist in the implementation of the week-long seminar.

We thank God and you for your prayers and financial support!
